Making $ense of Study Abroad

EducationAre you worried about how you're going to pay for your study abroad program? Learn how to increase your chances in securing funds by attending this workshop series! Reservation is required as space is limited; food will be provided at ALL workshops. September 17: Funding & Financial Aid- How does financial aid work? How do I find scholarships? How do I start saving and budgeting for my study abroad program? We will answer these, and many other questions, as well as provide tools to assist with budgeting and saving for your study abroad program. A representative from the Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS)will be there to answer your questions, too! *Bring laptop. September 23: Scholarship Essay Writing - Did you know that Georgetown was named as one of the Top Producers of Gilman Scholars? Did you know Georgetown has an office dedicated to helping students submit competitve fellowship applications? Come join OGE and the Georgetown Office of Fellowships, Awards, and Resources (GOFAR) to learn how to write a competitive scholarship essay! You could be the next scholarship recipient! *Bring laptop. October 17: Raise Money - What do you do when scholarships and financial aid come up short in covering your study abroad expenses? Fundraise! In partnership with the Center for Social Justice (CSJ), we will discuss different types of fundraising models and tips for organizing competitive fundraising campaigns. November 5: Expect the Unexpected - When it comes to being aware of unexpected costs, preparing to live in another country, using credit and debit cards abroad, and more, OGE and Common $ense can help you plan and budget for things you did not consider! Note: if you are unable to attend the workshop series due to a schedule conflict, we will offer the series again in Spring semester. Also, you can make an appointment to speak with an OGE financial education advisor to discuss your financial concerns.
